On the UT-Austin campus this morning, there was a shooting. Early within the morning, the Perry-Castaneda library saw a shooter enter. That individual then start firing a weapon. The sole reported injury from the UT shooting was the self-inflicted gunshot that killed the University of Texas shooter. The university and areas around UT-Austin are locked down to keep students and residents safe.
University of Texas shooters
A masked shooter walked into the Perry-Castaneda library at UT-Austin. This was just as morning classes were beginning. Police officers are seeking a second shooter. This is because of conflicting reports. Following running across university, the shooter entered the library. This was all while carrying an AK-47. There was a short burst of gunfire, and then the shooter allegedly shot himself. Because some witnesses have reported a second shooter, police are still looking for that second person.
One death in UT-Austin school shooting
Thus far, the only injury reported in the UT firing is the gunman in the library. Witnesses say the shooter was aiming the weapon at the ground. SWAT teams were called into university. Police, ambulance, and fire crews were also called in to University of Texas.
Pupils instantly informed of university lockdown
A lockdown of campus was instituted as soon as the shooting started. Students were asked to stay as safe as possible. Alerts were sent to students and faculty informing them of the lockdown. This alert was sent via email, text message, and Twitter. The text message alert included a warning to lock your doors. The alert also told off-campus pupils to “STAY AWAY.” The lockdown of campus will continue until the emergency crews have confirmed that campus is safe.
