Sonata recall affects 140,000 automobiles

The ability to steer a moving motor automobile without plowing into oncoming traffic is necessary for safe driving. The recent Hyundai Sonata recall was depending on a noted lack of said ability, writes Consumer Reports. Around 140,000 Hyundai Sonatas are being recalled beginning in October due to troubles with the steering column intermediate shaft. A dangerous lack of steering ability that comes from a connector joint problem is the culprit.

Faulty joints led to Hyundai Sonata recall

Faulty manufacturing, improper assembly or even insufficient joint tightening in Hyundai Sonatas built between December 11, 2009 and September 10, 2010 are factors that made the Hyundai Sonata recall necessary. Those with Sonatas in question should go to their dealer for repair and power steering software update, all done at no cost to the consumer. Consumer Reports writes that these free repairs can be handled with the utmost efficiency. For further questions, dial 800-633-5151 to reach Hyundai’s guest service experience.

Steering troubles for Hyundai, Kia

As outlined by Chosun Ilbo, both Hyundai and sister brand Kia have had steering-related troubles that have drawn the attention of the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Only one complaint was filed on the Soul, but that consumer posted a YouTube video, which proved to be viral. Speculation on the part of Chosun Ilbo is the United States of America government has it in for Asian automakers ever since Toyota went before Congress, but such allegations have not been proven.

The Hyundai Sonata and Kia Soul happen to be Hyundai-Kia’s flagship models within the U.S.. In the first seven months of 2010, 108,000 Sonatas were sold in America, accounting for 46 percent of total sales by the automaker within the nation. Eight thousand Kia Souls came to the United States in July alone, writes Chosun Ilbo. Sales projections indicate that over 10,000 Souls will be sold per month within the second half of 2010.
